Self Portrait and a little Motivation

It’s Monday. If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time you’ve noticed that I’ve been blogging a little something called “Motivation Monday”... I needed something to get me started in the week and there is no better motivation that God’s. Shortly after this I discovered some other beautiful blogs who believe the same! And they blog their own thoughts on this every Monday. For a link to these see the bottom of this post.

This morning - my husband and I sat down and attempted to read through part of James together... All the while, this is what kept us motivated:

We are not morning people. I don’t know how others do it. Recently someone mentioned “Oh, I get up at 4:20... every morning.” And he said it as if it was no big deal. A co-worker of mine receives phone calls at every hour of the day. She literally wakes up in the wee hours of the morning (3:00-5:00am) just so she can have some time where the phone isn’t constantly ringing. How do they do it?
I have no motivation to wake up early. I try. My husband and I know that if we don’t make time to read together in the morning - the day comes running at us so quickly that before you know it - we’re asleep again, battling the snooze button and trying to convince ourselves, “Let’s just read later...when we get home from work.”

Yet again. There’s no better motivation than God’s.

“Very Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place where he prayed.” Mark 1:35

It is probably very poignant that he left the house... the enticement of the sheets can be all consuming if you’re within range to submit to their call.

  3. Oh yes, I have the same issue. Getting up earlier than I "have to" is extremely hard.

  4. I am in no way, shape or form a morning person...but it certainly can be a great block of time to spend alone with God! I really like the subtlety that you pointed out in this verse of Jesus leaving the house...I get so distracted when I'm at home!! It's just another way that He shows us how to combat that distraction! Thanks so much for sharing and linking up! :)

  5. Spending time with God is so helpful and great to do, but yes, though sheets are tempting!

  6. Yup, morning time with God is key for me. If I don't get up before the kids, then even with the best intentions, I don't end up reading the Bible during the rest of the day. I am just getting back into the habit of early morning Bible reading again -- I was dedicated this winter, but then fell off the wagon this spring.

But no matter what, good coffee is key. I can't even open the Bible until I have a few strong swigs!
