Motivation Monday

A few years ago - I used to work for Youth For Christ... As part of my job we had assigned books to read and discuss (paid for a book club? I know. Good gig.) One of the first books we read was John Orberg's "If you want to walk on water - you've got to get out of the book." I remember the book being really great and just what I needed at the time - but to be honest, now all I remember is the title. But I think it's enough to get the point of the book.

We trust God right? We believe that he can do everything that he says he can do and we don't doubt it. .... right? Do I really believe that what I really believe is really real? (Ask yourself that question a couple times...) Or - do I just pretend?

It's much safer to stay firmly planted on the solid boat deck floor. Safe. Secure. Comfortable. In Control.

I need to challenge myself. What have I not really allowed God to be in control of? What is it that I haven't REALLY trusted him to do? Because if I REALLY believe that God is true to his word - then I can step out of this comfortable life and into one that yes - is more turbulent. yes - isn't safe. yes - might make others think I'm foolish.

But God is good. He has always been good to his word. I want to be like Peter.

"Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus."

After-all... If I don't trust him enough to step out there than I'll never know what it's like to have his hand reach out and grab me and keep me safe from falling.

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,”he said, “why did you doubt?”              Matthew 14:22-33

  6. Cool sparkly water! - And I am challenged everyday to walk by faith and not by sight. If I took around everything seems to be falling apart, but when I look at Him I know everything is going to going to work for the good.

  8. I liked that book a lot -- although I think it might be the only one by him that I've read.

Taking that first step is half the battle, isn't it?

    Love your photo, too...
