Spreading the Word

First - I’ll spread the word - for anyone out there in blog-land that is coming just to view the picture, here you are! A teaser of a play coming up performed by Tillicum Elementary 4th graders. The purpose of the play is a unique way of spreading the message of “going green” and protecting the environment. The play ends with this pretty rainbow.

(Motivation Monday...)

There are lots of things on my mind today. But mostly I need some motivation. I need the urge to love, to feel compassion, to feel joy and to spread hope. Just by living, in every action you take, you share a little of yourself with other people. You let people know who you are by the things you say and do. Often - those things you do are more important than those that you say. (Actions speak louder than words right?)

For example. My husband and I are bike commuters. As often as we get decent weather (which isn’t often) we try and ride our bikes to work which is only about 5 miles for both of us. This morning I was on my way to work and the actions of a man driving a small red ford sedan spoke much louder than words - the one finger salute. I would like to think he was saying - “Ya! Way to go bike-rider. You are number 1 for riding your bike and I just wanted to take some time out of my drive to let you know that!”

ha. right.

That driver was spreading little drops of anger with every turn of the wheel.

That’s not the message I want to spread. But it was the motivation I needed. How do I choose to live every day? Do I choose to be angry? That sounds exhausting...

For months I’ve had this verse stuck up on my bathroom mirror at home:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him so that you may overflow with HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit. ~ Romans 15:13

It’s got nothing to do with what I say... the closer I am to God the more I will overflow with hope. Whether I like it or not... I won’t have to talk about it. People will see it. Hope. That’s the message I’d LOVE to spread.

  2. I have to agree I would have a hard time not responding back. I applaud your positive outlook. I encounter at least two to 3 extremely negative people and lately they have gotten to me. I look at my blog as my safe haven with a group of wonder people to lift me up everyday. Thank you for being one of them.

  4. GORGEOUS shot-- taken by a gal with a gorgeous spirit! Good job not letting the haters get you down. You know what drives people like that crazy? When you give them a beautiful, beaming smile in return.

We have LOTS of bicyclists here in Bellingham, and there is safety in numbers-- if someone decided to flip off every cyclist they passed, they'd get arthritis in their middle finger.

  5. You guys are MUCH much much too sweet! Ugh. It was definitely a frustrating experience - but kill ‘em with kindness right? :)

And yes! I love love love Bellingham! My brother lives there and we are always envious of the “bike-friendliness” that is the streets of Bellingham. :)

  6. The photo is really beautiful! Thank you for sharing these encouraging words. I think I'm going to memorize that verse. That definitely would be a frustrating experience. ((hugs)) I think it's great you are riding your bike to work when you can. :)
