"What's with this place?"
What he meant to say... "I've heard Tillicum has a bad rap - but things look pretty decent to me." When all is said and done - our ghettos are nothing in comparison. I explained to him some of the history of Tillicum and how it just depends what side of the street you live on.
But the people are good people. Down on their luck. But good people.
Last night I supported National Night Out by offering free books to anyone who wanted them. Communities In Schools of Lakewood provided hundreds of books for children and adults. A fun way to meet the neighbors and support the community.
We started out with only one face painter and the line kept on growing. Face painting started at 4:00pm... I jumped in to help at 5:30 and the line didn't stop until 7:15.
But how could I resist when the kids were so cute?
sounds like a community pulling together! also sounds like fun! :)
ReplyDeletewonderful post... you understand the nature of community well. A bad rap for some is a haven for others. And Night Out sounds like a fabulous way to spread love and awareness.
