Neon? ... Fluorescent? ... Ah, shucks...

This is me... admitting defeat... at least for today - but I couldn’t NOT make this post (I think that’s the second double negative in two days... I need to work on my English).

Recently, we purchased a super discounted version of Adobe’s Creative Suite mostly because we needed the tools of InDesign (your welcome for the plug Adobe. Not that you needed it). Within that suite however, came Photoshop. It sat on my computer. Sat on my computer. Sat on my computer. THEN... sat some more.

Finally, I decided - I’m gonna learn how to use this thing. The first tutorial I watched said “You’ll never learn it all”... That was encouraging. But really I had no idea where to start. So I went to some of the blogs I frequent and decided I would learn off of their tutorials. So, with inspiration from here, and here, and using the SUPER handy tutorial from here, I started creating this:

The above (and below) photo is American Lake on the 4th of July.
So fun!! I loved the effect, but this first one was a little more “seashell” than I was hoping for so with some further edits on a new photo I came out with this:
I love this one. The lights out on the lake are fun to look at in a regular view - in a full circle it’s even more intriguing. I couldn’t get enough so I played around with more photos from some of my favorite previous posts....

The original photo can be seen here

Then... This was my favorite edit. (If you haven’t already noticed it in the blog banner that is)...

The original photo can be seen here!

So, this is officially the only thing I really know how to do in photoshop. And, this is WAY too much fun for one person. Follow the links to the tutorial earlier in the site and you can create your own!

Thanks for letting me divert from my world of color a little bit... but there was a little color so...

  1. Those are really cool - I haven't played with the globe effect in a while. I need to play again.

  3. Wow, I had no idea that kind of manipulation was even possible -- love it!

And may I ask...what kind of camera do you use?

  4. Haha. I had no idea it was possible either! That was half the fun in discovering this. :) Right now, I'm using a Nikon D50... she's pretty out of date but she does the job. Saving up for a new one though!

  5. I love polar photos... I've done some too, it takes a bit of experience to pick the right image to tweak... you've done it well! :-)
